On July 14th the reception for Clipped, a group show featuring the work of Andrew Matsumoto, Michael Serafino, Jeremy Penn, Flip Skip, Ari Lankin and Borbay was held at Le Salon d’ Art. Orignally scheduled from 7-10pm this party didn’t end until about 1am. This is what happens when you get a great group of people together and a very large quantity of refreshments that kept being replenished by the many happy guests. We would like to thank all of our loyal fans and the many new ones that came out for great art, conversation, and NYC style revelry. We’ll see if the streak continues and anyone gets married from meeting each other at this show. Sparks were flying, art was consumed, and drinks were flowing.
All of the photos (except the first two and the last) are by the very talented Tessa Beligue Photography. When you are finished with these take a minute to check out more of Tessa’s photos. I particularly like her portraits, night shots, unique perspectives, and intense use of color.
Relive the glory, or experience if for the first time…

Ari Lankin, Jason Borbay, and Jeremy Penn pose for a picture a few minutes before the show starts with the always early art/entertainment guru G (in green). Photo courtesy of according2G.com, check out the link for his really cool blog. He is everywhere and sees everything.

Michael Serafino hanging out by Borbay’s home base.

Matsumoto, Victoria, Lankin, and Serafino pause for a moment. A camera in a photo, so real, surreal.

The ever alert Serafino, nothing gets by him. The lovely Ms. Wells and Penn chat it up in the background.

Sanpaku eyes gaze through the crowd as the party starts to pop. People getting locked and loaded.

Now thats how you carry a cell phone.

Matsumoto!

Lankin and Shiva Krishna in the middle of a formal discussion.

The vibe.

The view from behind the bar. Borbay’s Marilyn holding strong. Read more about his painting here.

Reflections, people reflecting, don’t blink, or rather blink twice and move along.

The Deception of William Murphy by Jeremy Penn.

Paparazzi started to get out of hand. Two photographer’s passing in the night.

Borbay’s work including his newly finished Old Bay painting hang above the mirrors.

James Serafino, a handsome fella, a good bartender, but a much better illustrator.

Full house.

Who could resist that smile? RED

Where’s Courtney?

More vibin’

Lankin and the always interesting Ms. Dubash discuss the art of staying young at heart forever.

Penn, Lankin, and Serafino. One for the ages.

Ed. Nuff said.

Just having fun.

A Penn, Victoria, Lankin sandwich. Hold the cheese.

Gallery/Salon owner Hans Kerremans and his spectacular wife Grace.

V is for Vogue.

Borbay, Jon-O, Ms. Grignon, and Lankin take a moment even Mr. Kodak would be proud of.

Shiva supports Borbay as he gives a rousing impromptu speech to the masses. Artist Paul Zepeda in the background.

How many speeches end with people high fiving?

Newly hitched husband and wife. Congratulations!

Chessa and Matsumoto. She is clearly overwhelmed, but rises to the challenge, with how to pose alongside the artist.

Stunning portrait of Christina. I love Tessa’s portraits. That’s why we hired her to cover our show.

Fedora, Shades, and Sanpaku.

Vibin’ continued….

A couple of rad fashionistas, Christina and Nigella.

Has anyone seen Edvard Munch? I demand answers! L, Z, and C hold a tribunal in the background.

Closing down the shop almost 3 hours after scheduled ending time. You know how we roll.
The End.
Thank you to everyone for coming out.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY - June 23, 2011 – The group exhibition: CLIPPED — “Appropriated Material From The Streets of New York,” will take place during July at Le Salon d’ Art Gallery. Running the entire month of July, this group exhibition will showcase six New York artists, including: Andrew Matsumoto, Michael Serafino, Jeremy Penn, Flip Skip, Ari Lankin and Borbay.
“CLIPPED” refers to the link these artists share using printed paper as their most common found material. These works embody and perpetuate our fractured reality by literally fracturing it even further. Materials, words, and images are clipped from their original context and reborn in new situations. The end result enables the viewer to slip into an infinite realm of the past, the present, and the future.
Artist Reception: July 14th, 2011, 7 – 10 PM
Show Duration: July 1 – July 31, 2011
Location: Le Salon d’ Art | 90 Stanton Street | Manhattan

From photography to encaustic to paint to silk screen — this collection envelopes a spectrum of media in colors ranging from stark to vivid.

For Max’s Kansas City | What Art Means to Me, A Visual Diagram and Semi-Poetic Diatribe
By Jason Borbay
Art is Freedom,
to be overtly commercial like Andy,
Warhol, yet tortured, and full of drugs ala Basquiat,
Painting the Guggenheim once a year,
for 20 years, with different grades of Facial Hair,
In plain sight, in plein air,
Art is Manhattan,
Parties real and fake,
Collaging a surface, any surface, being Borbay,
Adding Paint, landing Commissions,
Making Money, creating a job,
hitting the Blog,
generating Press through the Photography of my work,
Schmoozing with the big bucks,
celebrating Sales, sealing smart Contracts,
a Hustle Jay Z would respect,
Cocktails to celebrate,
hitting my Up or Downtown Studio,
crafting my Image, out to obliterate,
the Myth of the starving artist,
Traveling to paint and deliver paintings,
a puff of the Tangerine, a glass of Scotch,
Living my Life, the life of an artist, like Jasper Johns,
only different,
meeting Collectors through the Wall Street Journal,
Japan, shameless self-promotion on Twitter,
Staring down a Rauschenberg, any Rauschenberg will do,
back to the Tangerine, out for some Neo Rauch,
more hustle on Facebook, some gritty Bearden collage work,
Meticulous Schwitters creations,
out to Educate the world and artists,
support and love from my fiancé Erin,
Any movie by Woody Allen, pre 1990,
Fellow artists I love, Penn, Lankin, Hessel, Danko, Seslow, Sanders, Zepeda, more,
Balancing my life with ice hockey,
Taking in, admiring, or creating film,
Painting a wooden bunny with Mom at age four,
Time Out New York and my man Tony D pimpin my wares,
Striving for anonymous Celebrity,
A salute to Mrs. Livesey, my high school art teacher,
the brilliant, inspirational and textural New York Post,
incredible support from Josh and the team at BevForce.
My life as a professional location artist.
This is one of my latest paintings completed for the upcoming show. I captured its process with this time lapse video. You will see me in the frame in the beginning to get a feel for how I work. Later in the video I only show the painting develop as if you were standing in front of the canvas painting it yourself.
You can see this painting and others in person on May 22nd at the opening gala for Painting Resurrected. The show will also feature the work of BORBAY, and Jeremy Penn.
Show Details – May 22, 2010, 6-9PM, 393 Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York NY

SUPERNATURAL EVENT: PAINTING RISES FROM THE GRAVE ON MAY 22, 2010
NEW YORK, NY–Many listless art critics have glibly declared: “painting is dead.” Another offered $10,000 for proof of expiration. On Saturday, May 22, 2010, BORBAY, Jeremy Penn and Ari Lankin offer evidence to the contrary. Opening for one-night-only in TriBeCa, Painting Resurrected will exhume eighteen contrasting paintings, supernaturally confirming – the demise of painting has been greatly exaggerated. Myths will be shattered, precedents will be set and cocktails will be served.

About Jeremy Penn
Jeremy Penn was born in 1979 in New York and studied Fine Art at both the University of Maryland and Pratt Institute. Penn’s paintings are best known for using color to elicit an emotional response. His works have been exhibited internationally and have gained acclaim from curators at museums such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. In 2009, Penn was honored as the “Featured Artist” for New York’s first Freedom Week. In 2010, Penn’s art was awarded both ASFD’s Pinnacle Award and the ADEX Gold Medal. His works have been prized by notable collectors, including the Crown Prince of Dubai. Energized by the caprices of popular culture, Penn’s recent work explores the evolution of celebrity.
About Ari Lankin
Ari Lankin was born in the suburbs of Philadelphia in 1980. He received his BFA in Painting and Economics from Brandies University. Although a wide traveler and avid road tripper, it is Manhattan that has been his home and inspiration as an artist, fueling his investigative and intuitive approach to painting. His concerns with systems, dreams, chaos and order, realities, and relational flow can be read in his work. The flux of these influences affords multiple interpretations, and allow for both moments of recognition and uncertainty. Ultimately he is concerned with risk taking, wisdom, process and chance rather than emulating a preconceived final image.
About BORBAY
Voted Time Out New York’s Most Creative New Yorker in 2009, Upper East Side artist BORBAY has painted famed landmarks around the world. On display will be BORBAY’s collage paintings, comprised of New York Post headlines and layer upon layer of acrylic paint. Driven to capture the actuality of society, this series visually displays the paradox of love, lust, murder, sex, sports, betrayal, triumph, religion, rape and politics in one place… concepts any person reading a daily newspaper will see juxtaposed without a second thought. His works have been acquired for private and corporate collections around the world.
